Nic Viviers
Nic was born and bred in the Free State but studied at the University of Pretoria and was admitted as an attorney in 2002. Nic has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, is a talented golfer and keen athlete, having completed some of the toughest races out there such as the Cape Epic, the Comrades Marathon, the 140.6 Ironman African triathlon, the 100km Skyrun trail run and the #Grootswem which is a swim from Robben Island to the mainland.
Gerhard van Biljon
Gerhard joined Weavind in 2014 as a candidate attorney after completing his LLB degree at the University of Pretoria in 2013. Prior to venturing into the field of law he completed a BSc Biotechnology degree (2009). He quickly found his place as an Associate in the General Litigation department dealing mainly with insurance claims and liabilities and was promoted to Directorate in 2020.
Gerhard assists clients with various litigation disputes, however he mainly focusses on insurance matters, more specifically, insurance matters dealing with motor vehicle collisions.
Sean van der Merwe
Sean articled at Weavind and after his admission as an attorney in 1999, was a professional assistant in the Litigation Department. He decided to look to for greener pastures and practised in Johannesburg for a time before the lure of Pretoria persuaded him to cross the Jukskei again. Despite growing up in Durban, Sean is an avid Blue Bulls supporter, enjoys history and is a serious comic collector with a huge collection of comics dating as far back as the 1960’s.
Niel Cloete
Niel joined Weavind in 2010 as a candidate attorney after having completed his BComm LLB degree at the University of Pretoria in 2009. He was appointed as an Associate in the General Litigation department in 2012 and promoted to Directorate on 2019. As a Director in the Litigation and Dispute Resolution department Niel has gained extensive knowledge in specialized litigation centralized around immovable property including land use rights and rental disputes relating to residential and commercial property. Having headed up Weavind’s family law department, Niel can also be of assistance to you and your family in any family and child law related matters. With a keen interest in sports, Niel has had the privilege of counting various sportsmen as his clients who he assists with a variety of legal matters. Niel enjoys the outdoors and you will often find him hiking or running in one of the various reserves in South Africa.
As a director in the Litigation department Niel has gained extensive knowledge in property law, insurance law, family law, criminal law, third party compensation law and does collections on behalf of big steel companies to name a few.
Thato Lepinka
Thato is a polyglot, fluent in Afrikaans, English, Setswana, Sepedi and isiZulu. He matriculated from Afrikaans Hoër Seunskool (“Affies”) in 2009, where he played rugby, waterpolo and was a member of the Affies Boys Choir that scored cum laude at the 5th World Choir games in Graz Austria in 2008. He enjoys sports and is undertaking serious work on his golf swing. Thato‘s professional tenure at the firm commenced when he enrolled for vacation work at Weavind & Weavind in 2012 whilst undertaking his LLB degree at the University of Pretoria. He subsequently completed his articles of clerkship at the firm and worked his way up the ranks to the position of Associate in the commercial department.
Marthinus Uys
Marthinus started his legal career at an established firm of attorneys in Pretoria in 2006 as a student trainee, and later candidate attorney, whilst completing his B.Comm and LLB degrees at the University of Pretoria. Marthinus simultaneously completed his studies and articles at the end of 2009 and was admitted as an attorney, notary and conveyancer in 2010. He enjoys nature and is a keen sportsman having played premier league club cricket and varsity rugby during his studies and still maintains a low single-figure golf handicap. Marthinus joined Weavind & Weavind in April 2017.
Since his admission, Marthinus was appointed has head of a conveyancing department where he specialised in township establishment, opening of sectional title registers, residential developments, registration of various notarial deeds and servitudes as well as other complex conveyancing matters countrywide. Marthinus has been involved with the successful establishment of numerous retirement villages and currently focuses on residential developments undertaken by reputable developers in the property market.
Aneldi Phillips
Aneldi was born and raised on a farm in Limpopo. She spread her wings and completed her LLB at the University of Pretoria in 2018 whereafter she completed her articles with Weavind in 2020. She was admitted as an Attorney in 2021 and gained experience as a practicing Attorney for 3 years. Aneldi joined the Weavind team again as Chief Operations Officer in 2024. In her free time, she enjoys baking, traveling and spending time with her husband and family.
Yolanda Heyneke
Yolanda articled at Weavind & Weavind and after her admission as an attorney in 2004, was appointed as an Associate and practises in the conveyancing department. She is a keen cyclist, having completed many Cape Argus and other cycle races, including a cycle tour from Cape Aghulhas to Pretoria in 2005. Yolanda is also passionate about the outdoors, wildlife and travelling. Her travels have led her to England, Germany, Italy, France, The Netherlands, Austria, Israel, Egypt and Namibia.
Yolanda practises in our conveyancing department where she attends to conveyancing related matters including transfers (which includes Sheriff, Insolvent Estate, Deceased Estate and Bank assisted transfers), registration of Bonds, Sectional Title Schemes, acts as a local correspondent for numerous law firms, attends to the drafting and notarising of Notarial documents and also attends to the execution of Deeds at the Pretoria Deeds Office.
Lorraine Mervis
Lorraine is a proud mother of two. She subscribes to strong family values whilst maintaining ambitions in her career. She has spent an astounding and well-accomplished 24 years at the Deeds Office in Pretoria as a senior examiner, gaining vast experience in conveyancing.
Lorraine commenced with her articles at Weavind in 2020 and was admitted as an Attorney in 2021 and as Conveyancer and Notary in 2022. She is currently involved in the Sishen Iron Ore Company (Pty) Ltd (Anglo American) Dingleton Resettlement Project.
In her spare time, Lorraine enjoys cooking and listening to music.
Rochelle Raymond
Rochelle joined our firm as a candidate attorney in 2020, after having shown her humorous side in her interview by telling a notorious joke about her hometown of Brakpan. While she initially had an interest in following in her father’s footsteps and becoming a doctor, she discovered her niche in the world of law during her studies at the University of Pretoria. She quickly found her passion in the Conveyancing Department during her articles through tackling intricate and unique matters with our own Theo van Rensburg, a stalwart of the Conveyancing community. She was appointed as an Associate in 2022.
Rochelle enjoys reading epic novels, listening to a variety of podcasts, and enjoys going to festivals and markets. She is an avid animal lover and is the proud owner of four Yorkshire Terriers.
Rochelle has gained invaluable experience during her time in our Conveyancing Department and can attend to property transfers, commercial bond registrations and other general conveyancing matters such as the preparation of agreements of sale, drafting of lease agreements, registration of bond cancellations and releases, and can prepare applications for name changes, amalgamations and mergers, substitutions and various other matters. She can also assist with various notarial attendances, including the preparation of antenuptial contracts.
Hercunette van Tonder
After graduating from the University of Pretoria Hercunette joined our firm in 2019 and completed her two years of articles at Weavind & Weavind and was admitted as an Attorney in 2021. Hercunette was appointed as an Associate and joined our well-established Litigation Department. In her free time Hercunette enjoys the outdoors and regularly go on hiking and fishing trips with her husband and their two border collies.

JJ Oosthuizen
JJ was born in Trichardt and completed his LLB (cum laude) at the University of Pretoria. He joined the firm as a candidate attorney and has now been appointed as an Associate in the litigation department, after his admission as an Attorney in 2023. JJ has also been admitted as a Conveyancer and Notary Public. In his free time, he enjoys Crossfit, rugby and reading. He also competed in his first Crossfit Open. JJ is very goal orientated and his devotion to personal goals does not fall short either since he completed two half marathons with exceptional times.
Callie Steenkamp
Callie was born in Somerset West but decided to leave the winelands behind. He completed his LLB degree at the North-West University and joined our firm as a candidate attorney in 2021. He was admitted as an Attorney in 2024 whereafter he joined our litigation department as an Associate. His fields of specialty spans from general litigation to insurance law. Callie has a distinct love for the African bushveld and enjoys fishing and hunting in his free time.

Lizerie was born in Randfontein and completed her LLB (cum laude) at the University of Pretoria. She joined the firm as a candidate attorney and has now been appointed as an Associate in the litigation department, after her admission as an Attorney in 2024. She is an excellent athlete being the South African Track and Cross Country Champion on nine occasions. She also represented South Africa on numerous Continental and World Athletics stages. In her free time, she enjoys cycling, golfing, traveling and spending time with loved ones.
Theo van Rensburg
Theo has succeeded in effectively combining his day to day activities as a knowledgeable and energetic conveyancer with property development, which is his passion. He is involved in various property developments on behalf of his clients and co-directors. On a personal note, Theo has an avid interest in athletics and was a fine athlete in his day, being the SA 400m champion in 1974 and 1975.
Ulrich Fobian – Consultant

Ulrich’s relationship with Weavind started in 2012 as an article clerk. He worked as an associate before embarking on further studies in Japan in August 2017. He has remained a consultant of the firm since then. In his spare time he is a keen public speaker, trail-runner and songwriter.
Pieta Strauss
Pieta is a family man to the core and likes spending time with his wife and two daughters. When not in the office he is keen on a good road or trail run and the occasional mountain bike ride. He has completed numerous half marathons and mountain trail races whilst also chancing his (not so strong swimming) arm at the odd off-road triathlon.
He started out in the commercial department of a well-known and established legal firm, broadened his horizons with a short stint in the financial services industry. He made the move into the private equity space focussing mainly on mergers and acquisitions as well as equity investments (both locally and internationally) before venturing back into private practice. He is a practical and commercially minded professional with a real interest in business. During his career he has gained extensive experience in transactional work, advising and acting on behalf of corporate, private and institutional clients (including clients listed on a recognised stock exchange).

Oscar is a fitness fanatic and a keen athlete.
